President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, has approved the payment of 774,000 Special Public Works scheme participants.
This was made known in a tweet by the Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, Festus Keyamo (SAN), who said on Saturday that President Muhammadu Buhari has given approval for the payment.

On his official handle, @fkeyamo, he said participants should be ready to receive their payments soon and beneficiaries would be paid through the BVN number of their accounts to avoid duplication, enable auditing and control fraud.
The Minister further added that those who registered with different names than what was on their BVN should not expect to be paid.
The (SPW) scheme, initiated in January 2020, was designed to engage unemployed Nigerians. The sum of 52 billion naira was allocated for the 3-month service scheme to pay 774,000 participants recruited across the country with 20,000 each per month.
The participants were recruited under the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and the agency will begin the process of their payments as directed by the Minister.
The recent statistics of unemployment in Nigeria has shown a dramatic increase in the unemployment indices with about 23 million Nigerian youths without jobs in the country.
It is noteworthy, that the likes of this scheme are necessary emergency measures to contain the situation and control the growing number of people drifting below the poverty line in Nigeria.
