What went wrong for Anthony Joshua in his loss against Oleksandr Usyk?

Story from Faruk TUMSAH, Abuja

Anthony Joshua went to the Jeddah on the 20th of August hoping to avenge his loss to Oleksandr Usyk at the Tottenham Stadium 11 months ago.

But unfortunately for him, Usyk put on a great performance which saw him prevail over Joshua in a split decision. Joshua, with a new trainer in his corner produced a much-improved performance 11 months on from his defeat by the former undisputed cruiserweight ruler. But Usyk again proved too good as he was given the nod on two of the three scorecards which was a bit generous to Joshua.

Joshua’s performance isn’t what caught the headlines, it was his post-fight actions when he picked up two of four belts on offer, slammed them on the canvas and stormed out of the ring in anger. The Olympic Champion regained his composure and returned to the ring to give an x rated speech as emotions boiled over in Saudi Arabia.

He gave it absolutely everything out in Jeddah, making the fight much closer this time around. Knowing he gave it his absolute best and it still wasn’t good enough will no doubt hurt him. Already in his career he has earned so much and he won’t be stopped here. He is a champion and a fighter and he’ll surely be back competing with the very best.
