Yobe achieves 80 percent improvement in potable water supply across 17 LGAs – Commissioner

Determined to provide accessible and potable drinking water for all citizens in the state, the Yobe State Government said it has seen over 80 percent improvement in water supply coverage across the 17 local government areas in the state.

Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Yarima Lawan Mahmud, made this known in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital while briefing newsmen on some achievements recorded by the present administration.

Mahmud revealed that the ministry under review had facilitated and secured various approval to cover requests of the 17 local governments in the state in the areas of water, agriculture, education, security, and road construction jointly executed with the state government on the basis of 60/40 percent as well as expenditure related to Emirate council in the state.

He noted that the project includes the construction of roads and drainages at Babbangida in Tarmuwa, Jaji Maji in Karasuwa, Buni Yadi in Gujba, and Damagum in Fune local government areas respectively.

“Other projects are, facilitating approval for the construction of event and computer centres, renovation of chairman official residence and governor’s lodge in Jakusko, and renovation of local government secretariat in Damaturu was equally undertaken”, the Commissioner said.

The Commissioner further revealed that the ministry has prepared a work plan for implementation in the local government areas costing about 1.7 billion Naira aimed at enhancing the living conditions of the citizens of the state.

Mahmud commended the effort of the present administration under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni to transform all sectors of the state economy.
