EFCC boss sacks staff over corruption, vows to uphold integrity

Story by Victor Itodo ABUH

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, revealed that two staff members were recently dismissed over corruption allegations, as part of the agency’s commitment to integrity and accountability.

Speaking at the 6th Annual Criminal Law Review Conference in Abuja, Olukoyede disclosed that the staff were terminated two weeks ago.

He emphasised that going forward, employees found guilty of misconduct would not only be dismissed but also prosecuted.

Olukoyede stressed the importance of fighting corruption with clean hands, stating, “We must make up our minds to work together to do the right thing. Any corrupt staff, I will show you the way out.”

He urged Nigerians to hold EFCC employees accountable, declaring that those with credible accusations against him could come forward and challenge his integrity. “I can’t be easily influenced by things like that,” he added.

The EFCC Chairman also underscored the need for legal practitioners to combine law and morality, asserting that integrity is essential for the survival of the legal profession and for combating corruption.

Furthermore, Olukoyede called for a review of ethics and standards within legal practice and welcomed constructive criticism of the EFCC, as long as it was expressed responsibly.
