Gov. Buni reveals enrollment of 275,358 people into healthcare scheme, other developmental initiatives

Yobe State Government disclosed that as of October 2024, the state Contributory Healthcare Scheme (YSCHMA) has enrolled a total of 275,358 people into the scheme, reflecting the agency’s commitment to expanding healthcare coverage across the state.
Governor Mai Mala Buni made this known on Thursday while briefing journalists in Damaturu during the 2024 end of the year press briefing organised by the state Ministry of Home Affairs, Information and Culture.
Represented by his deputy Alhaji Idi Barde Gubana, Governor Buni explained that the state provided support to 222 primary healthcare providers through 24 secondary healthcare facilities via the fee-for-service arrangement under YSCHMA.
He further revealed that the state government has constructed a modern lCT centre to enhance social protection initiatives for the benefit of the people of the state.
“We have also built an ante-natal and VIP ward at women and children hospital Damaturu, constructed an accident and emergency complex and a one-storey building doctors quarters at the state specialist hospital, Buni-Yadi.
“We also procured and distributed various state-of-the-art medical equipment across different healthcare facilities in the state and kept the momentum on the ongoing research on chronic kidney disease affecting some local government areas of the state.
“We have also procured an important software for our MRI Machine at the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital (YSUTH), Damaturu; the PV VAR ASSAT Software,” said Governor Buni.
According to him, alot has been achieved in the area of wealth creation, empowerment and employment.These include the procurement of 475 modern sewing and embroidery machines, procurement and distribution of 350 disability tricycles, procurement of 712 cows and bulls for livestock farmers.
Others are the provision of cash grant of N50,000 to 3,560 small entrepreneurs across 178 wards of the state, provision of cash support of N20,000 to 4800 unemployed youths, training of 85 youths on shoe making and provision of start-up kits, and distribution of 500 units of deep freezers to women in ice-making business.
“We also procured 1,780 smoking stoves,1780 frying pans,1780 frying spoons, 1780 sieving basins, 1780 bowls and procurement of 100 units of motorcycles and 89 units of pick up tricycles for distribution to beneficiaries and the distribution of 340 work bulls, 170 ax-drawn carts and 170 ox-drawn ploughs among others”.
Governor Buni commended the dedication and commitment of members of the press in the state towards keeping the public informed about the state’s efforts in various sectors and the work done every day to improve the people’s living conditions.
He assured journalists, as partners in the development of Yobe State, that the state will continue to keep them abreast of all its efforts in moving the state forward.
