Shari’a court sentences 19-year-old boy for assaulting sex worker over ₦10,000

A Shari’a court l sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna has found a 19-year-old man, Dahiru Usman, guilty of assaulting a sex worker.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, on Tuesday, Usman was found guilty of the crime and sentenced to one month in a correctional facility.

The Judge, Malam Kabir Muhammad, gave the accused an option of ₦7,000 fine and ordered him to pay ₦70,000 compensation or face a 12-month jail term.

The prosecutor, ASP Luka Sadau, stated that the nominal complainant, Zainab Idris, a resident of Kigo Road, had, on January 15, reported the matter to the Sabon Gari Police Station.

“That on the same date, at about 2:30 pm, you and Zainab agreed to meet in a hotel room located at Constitution Road for full-time service at the rate of ₦10,000.

“While you are in the hotel room, you had an argument and you, Dahiru, started beating her and hit her with a hammer on the head which resulted in her sustaining injury,” he said.

The prosecutor presented the hammer which was recovered as an exhibit to the court praying it to punish the accused accordingly and order him to pay ₦70,000 compensation.

On his part, the accused pleaded guilty to the offence bordering on assault and causing harm.
