Police rescue Ghanaian women, others lured into Nigeria with fake promises of jobs

The Lagos State Police Command has rescued foreign nationals, including 18 men and nine women from Ghana and Benin Republic, who were allegedly kidnapped and confined in an apartment in Isheri Oshun.

The victims were discovered after one of them made a distress call to the Police Complaint Response Unit (CRU).

Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the police command, confirmed that the victim reported being held against her will, and the police swiftly responded to the location.

The police immediately contacted the Divisional Police Officer for the area, leading to the successful rescue of all 27 individuals from captivity.

According to Hundeyin, preliminary investigations revealed that the victims had been lured into the country with promises of jobs.

“It is still under investigation whether Lagos was their final destination or if they were being trafficked to another country. All victims are now safe and in police custody,” he said.

In a related incident, a couple was arrested for kidnapping an online vendor who had been lured to deliver a product in the Iyana Ishashi area.

The victim was dragged inside a home by the couple, stripped naked, and assaulted.

They then took compromising pictures of her and demanded a ransom of ₦2 million, later reducing it to ₦300,000. The victim managed to pay part of the ransom and reported the incident, leading to the couple’s arrest.
