Police declare Sowore wanted over planned protest
The Lagos State Police Command has declared activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, wanted for allegedly plotting to incite public unrest and obstruct major roads across the state.
Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, announced this on Monday while briefing journalists at the Iyana-Oworo section of the Third Mainland Bridge, warning that the command would not tolerate any attempt to disrupt peace or hinder public movement.
According to Jimoh, intelligence reports indicated that Sowore and his associates had planned simultaneous demonstrations at strategic locations including the Third Mainland Bridge, Lekki Tollgate, and Freedom Park.

“Sowore should surrender at the nearest police station or face arrest wherever he is found,” Jimoh declared. “Anyone attempting to cause disturbance or block our roads will face the full weight of the law.”
The police commissioner described the planned protest as a “criminal attempt” capable of causing massive traffic gridlock and endangering lives.
“It is only someone who needs examination that would attempt to block such a vital route used by thousands daily,” he said.
13 Suspects Arrested, Sowore Reportedly on the Run
Jimoh confirmed that 13 suspects had already been arrested in connection with the alleged protest plot, while Sowore reportedly fled before police operations commenced.
“Investigations are ongoing to identify other sponsors and collaborators,” he added.

The police boss revealed that security personnel had been deployed to key areas across Lagos — including highways, bridges, and city entry points — where temporary roadblocks and diversions had been introduced to maintain order.
“The Third Mainland Bridge was not designed to hold stationary weight. Any gathering on it could pose structural risks,” he cautioned.
Jimoh also addressed concerns over recent demolitions in parts of Lagos, particularly in the Oworo-Soki area, dismissing claims that the exercise was carried out without compensation.
“The government compensated those affected, and the media witnessed it,” he said. “There is no justification to provoke crisis under the guise of protest.”
He assured Lagos residents that there was no cause for alarm, emphasizing that security agencies were fully mobilized to safeguard lives and property.

“We are not sleeping. We will apprehend, investigate, and prosecute anyone attempting to undermine public safety in Lagos,” Jimoh said.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to upholding the law without fear or favour, noting that while citizens have the right to protest, such rights must not be abused to create chaos or lawlessness.
