Emir of Potiskum hosts celebration of World Ngizim Day (11-11)

His Royal Highness, the Emir of Potiskum, Alhaji Umaru Bubaram Ibn Wuriwa Bauya CON, has hosted the celebration of World Ngizim Day, popularly known as 11-11, at his palace in Potiskum, Yobe State.
The event, held on Saturday, November 11, 2025, was organised to celebrate the Ngizim ethnic group, promote cultural heritage, and revive traditional values and history.
In a speech delivered on his behalf by the Muƙaddam of Potiskum, the Emir explained that the purpose of organising the event is to reconnect with the history of the Ngizim people and preserve their traditions. He emphasised that the primary goal of the celebration is to foster unity and mutual love among the people.
Representing Yobe State Governor Alhaji Mai Mala Buni CON at the event was Hon. Alhaji Aji Yerima Bularafa (Malterab of Gujba), Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to promoting peace, unity, and cultural development across Yobe. He praised the Ngizim people for their contributions to the progress of the state and emphasised that cultural preservation is vital to community identity and cohesion.
Commissioner Bularafa conveyed the governor’s goodwill message and stressed the importance of cultural festivals in fostering understanding and unity among Yobe’s diverse ethnic groups. He encouraged the Ngizim people to continue preserving their culture while also embracing modern education, entrepreneurship, and agricultural development for the benefit of future generations.
The event featured a variety of traditional performances and colourful horse-riding displays that showcased the rich heritage of the Ngizim people.
Dignitaries in attendance included the Emirs of Fune and Gudi, several District Heads, the member representing Potiskum Central, Alhaji Ahmed Adamu BBK, as well as representatives of the Emirs of Fika, Tikau, and Bade. Numerous traditional titleholders from the Potiskum Emirate and a large crowd of men, women, and children from the Ngizim community also attended.
In a media chat after the event, His Royal Highness the Emir of Potiskum thanked Governor Mai Mala Buni for his support and solidarity in making the celebration a success. He also expressed special gratitude for the governor’s donation of N20 million towards the event. The Emir appreciated the massive turnout and prayed for everyone’s safe return home.
