Police arrest 21-year-old Nigerien with stolen cows in Jigawa
The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended a 21-year-old Nigerien national for attempting to transport eight suspected stolen cows across the border in what authorities describe as a rustling operation.
This comes weeks after the command arrested another suspect for smuggling six stolen cows through Birnin Kudu LGA, an operation that helped disrupt a growing livestock theft network.
Spokesperson of the command, SP Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the latest arrest in a statement released in Dutse on Sunday, noting that operatives attached to Maigatari Division intercepted the suspect, identified as Muhammad Abdullahi, on November 29, 2025.

According to the PPRO, Abdullahi was arrested in Matoya village, Maigatari LGA, following intelligence from vigilant residents. The stolen cows were recovered and are currently secured for identification and return to their rightful owners.
Adam praised community collaboration in the arrest, stressing that local vigilance remains vital in combating cattle rustling and protecting herders’ livelihoods. He also revealed that investigations are ongoing to track down the suspect’s accomplices.
In a separate incident the same day, police in Taura Division arrested 27-year-old Adamu Yahaya of Kwalam town for allegedly vandalising public electrical installations. Officers recovered three sacks of electric cables reportedly stolen from government power lines, leading to power disruption in the area.

The State Commissioner of Police commended personnel for their prompt action and urged residents to continue providing useful intelligence, assuring the public of heightened security efforts across Jigawa.
