Emefiele rejects allegation of terrorism funding

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has categorically denied claims that he or the institution under his leadership engaged in financing terrorism.
In a statement, Emefiele described the allegations as baseless and politically motivated, stressing that the CBN adheres strictly to national and international financial regulations, including measures to prevent the funding of criminal or terrorist activities.

He called on the public and media to exercise caution in accepting unverified reports, noting that such claims could undermine confidence in Nigeria’s financial system. Emefiele reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining transparency, accountability, and integrity in all CBN operations.
The CBN governor emphasized that the institution continues to work closely with security agencies to ensure that the financial system is not exploited for unlawful purposes.
