Gov. Buni commits to completing 38 health centres, underscores Yobe’s healthcare achievements at MACUF 2026

Governor Mai Mala Buni has announced a major push to complete primary healthcare infrastructure across Yobe State, promising to construct the remaining 38 Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) in the state’s unserved wards.
The governor made the declaration on Sunday during the grand finale of the 2026 Machina Cultural Festival (MACUF).
He said this commitment follows the successful completion of 143 PHCs, bringing the state closer to its goal of having a functional health centre in each of its 178 political wards.
Governor Buni seized the platform to trumpet a significant achievement as Yobe State’s recent first-place ranking in primary healthcare delivery nationwide.
He attributed this success to the dedication of the state’s health workers.
“All these achievements are a result of the commitment and dedication of the healthcare providers in the state,” said Buni.
Governor Buni stated, “We received 1.2 million dollars as a reward for this achievement and promised to build primary health care centres across all 178 wards.
“So far, we have constructed 140, with 38 remaining, and we will soon commence their construction,” he added.
Highlighting a holistic approach to healthcare, the Governor emphasised that buildings alone are insufficient.
“It is not enough to build a health care centre without equipment or to build a hospital without staff.
“To this end, this administration has recruited and deployed approximately 3,000 medical personnel to man the newly built facilities,” he added.
Beyond healthcare, Governor Buni outlined progressive interventions in agriculture.
He revealed that the state’s empowerment scheme is expanding, with plans to support 50 individuals per ward this year.
According to him, this follows the assistance provided to 30 people per ward last year and 40 per ward two years prior.
The governor framed the massive cultural gathering as a testament to the restored peace in Yobe State. “Everyone here can attest that this gathering in Machina is a sign that peace has been restored in the state,” he said, urging continued prayers for sustained peace across Nigeria.
He expressed gratitude for the successful conclusion of MACUF 2026 and hoped for its continuation in the following year.
Earlier, the Emir of Machina, Alhaji Dr Bashir Albishir Bukar Machina, welcomed guests from “far and near” and prayed for their safe journeys home.
The festival attracted a high-profile gathering, including the Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, former Senate President Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, members of the National Assembly, and traditional rulers from Yobe, other parts of Nigeria, and the Niger Republic.
Before the MACUF events, Governor Buni undertook an inspection tour in the region. He commissioned Rugar Barabe, a residential estate in Nguru built by philanthropist Alhaji Balarabe Abdullahi.
His tour also included an assessment of the Laminu Primary Health Care Centre, a sesame processing factory, and the ongoing construction of a modern market in Machina.
