Governor, Nyesom Wike, has pledged 20 million naira as compensation to the families of each of the Soldiers and Policemen that were killed by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Oyigbo last week.

He stated this during a condolence visit to the families of the slain Policemen at the Rivers Police Command, on Tuesday.

The reflector also gathered that the Governor promised to rebuild all burnt Police stations in Oyigbo local government area and vowed to ensure that IPOB as a group, doesn’t exist in the state.

The Governor, who was accompanied by the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Paulinus Nsirim, and the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Professor Zacchaeus Adangor, described the gruesome murder of the Policemen and Soldiers as unacceptable.

“IPOB masterminded the killing of our gallant officers of the Nigeria Police and Army. We want to state clearly that Rivers State Government will support you to make sure that any of the perpetrators of this heinous crime does not go free. Enough is enough. You cannot continue to kill our policemen who have not done anything; who have not committed any crime”, he said.

According to him, the killing of Policemen was one crime that the State government will never condone.

He further assured the Police Commissioner, Makun, that the State Government will rebuild all the Police stations set ablaze by IPOB, and provide the necessary support to policemen whose residence were vandalised and rendered homeless.
