Former military president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida yesterday endorsed the agenda of Team New Nigeria and pledged his support for all its activities.
The public endorsement was the high point of a courtesy call to the statesman by leaders and stakeholders of Team New Nigeria in his Minna residence.
National president of Team New Nigeria, Dr Modibbo Yakubun Farakwai in his remarks said that He led members of Team New Nigeria and its stakeholders to consult and identify with the elder statesman first as a distinguished patriot, second as a prominent factor in the national political space and third as one of the fathers of Nigeria who worked for and is still working for the unity of the nation.
He also said that Team New Nigeria is presently at the forefront of mobilizing Nigerians in an unprecedented manner towards ensuring that “no mistakes are made in 2023” hence the request for the support, patronage, backing and most importantly, push of the distinguished statesman.

Speaking further, the national publicity secretary of Team New Nigeria, Dr Mohammed Shaibu Tettes, said that Team New Nigeria has within a short time succeeded in creating a new narrative for participation in governance – a feat that was achieved by careful cultivation of followership drawn from the political class, academia, clergy, traditional institution, media, Nigerians in Diaspora, youth groups, civil society and most importantly, ordinary Nigerians from the streets, markets and religious centres.
In his response, former President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida applauded Team New Nigeria for stepping forward to promote peace, unity and hope at a time when many Nigerians are yearning for a brand new nation built on equity, justice, peace and mutual respect and tolerance.
He averred that He is at one with the vision of the group because they reflect His belief and ideas about ideal nationhood.
He pledged to participate in the activities of the group at all times and ensure that all hands are on deck to consolidate on the agenda for which Team New Nigeria was formed.
He finally commended Team New Nigeria as a group for ensuring that young people are given a strong platform with which they can participate in leadership across all levels and advised the leadership of the group to remain focused and steadfast in the task of nation-building.
On His part, senior media advisor to the former President, Kassim Afegbua acknowledged the need for Nigerians to eschew negative tendencies and engage one another in the task of nation-building.
He applauded Team New Nigeria for promoting a culture of unity and patriotism in Nigeria and admonished the group to do more towards making Nigerians see reasons to abhor political intolerance, religious extremism, hate and injustice.
