Court jails trader for stealing mobile phone

A Magistrate’s Court in Jos, on Wednesday sentenced a 22-year-old trader, Bello Mohammed to 2 months imprisonment for stealing a mobile phone.

The Magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos, summarily tried and sentenced the convict, who pleaded guilty to the charge.

Bokkos in her judgment, gave the convict an option of fine of N20,000 or spend one month in prison.

She also ordered the convict to pay the complainant a compensation of ₦11,500 or spend one month in prison in default.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported at the Nasarawa Gwong Police Station on May 20, by one Abdullahi Umar, who is the complainant.

Gokwat alleged that the convict was given the phone worth ₦11,500 to make a call but he ran away with it, sold it and spent the money.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.
