Court remands teenager for snatching phones, ATM cards in Lagos

A 19-year-old Yinka Olamilekan has been remanded by a court in the Ikeja district of Lagos state on Thursday for allegedly robbing a pedestrian with a cutlass.

Olamilekan faces two counts of conspiracy and robbery. The magistrate, Ms OO Fajana, who did not accept the suspect’s plea, ordered that he be detained at the Kirikiri Correctional Center in Lagos.

NAN reports that the Yinka Olamilekan’s offences violate Articles 297 (1) (2) and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

She ordered that Olamilekan’s case be sent to the state’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice, Fajana adjourned the case until August 18 for hearing.

According to the Police prosecutor Inspector, Kenrich Nomayo the accused armed himself with a cutlass and other dangerous weapons and stole from one Aminu Zaki, a Camon 16 phone which is worth 75 000 naira.

Nomayo told the court that the accused committed the offences with other people, who are still at large on June 20, around 9:30 p.m. on Alfa Nla Street, in Agege, a suburb of Lagos.

He disclosed that Yinka Olamilekan also stole two ATM cards from people, but was arrested by police officers on duty around the area, and was taken to the police station.
