Family devastated as mother, 5 children die in Katsina building collapse

Tragedy has struck the Dankama Local Government Area of Katsina State, where a building collapse has killed at least six people.

The incident, which occurred during a heavy downpour around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, claimed the lives of a mother and five of her children while they were sleeping.

The victims’ husband and father, Malam Muhammad Sani, confirmed the devastating news to reporters. He stated that three other people were hospitalised with various injuries sustained in the collapse. Sani explained that he was away when the building fell and was left in shock upon hearing the news.

“This affected about 10 people, but sadly six didn’t survive. Three are currently receiving treatment in hospital,” he told journalists.

The deceased were identified as Mariya Sani (45), Mujahid (20), Zahariya (18), Hauwa (15), Amira, and Nura Sani (five).

The tragedy has caused immense grief in the community, with many sympathisers visiting the family’s home to offer condolences. Sani expressed his acceptance of the tragedy, saying, “I surrender to Allah’s will. May He grant them eternal rest.”

Hajiya Binta Dangani, Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

She stated that agency officials have been sent to condole with the family and assess the damage.
