Gov. Buni assures Army of more support to fight insurgency

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has assured the Nigerian Army and other security agencies of continuous support in the fight against insurgency in the state.

Governor Buni gave the assurance on Sunday in Damaturu when he received the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, on a courtesy call at the Government House, Damaturu.

According to a statement by his Director-General, Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammed, Governor Buni commended the military for its commitment to the security now enjoyed across the state.

He said the 17 local government areas are accessible with the people moving around pursuing legitimate businesses.

“The security attained across the state allows the government to execute its policies and programmes to improve the lives of our people unhindered,” Buni said.

He, however, called for increased patrol along the borders to check possible infiltration of insurgents targeting soft and isolated targets.

Earlier, the COAS assured the governor of the army’s commitment to end insurgency and banditry in Nigeria.

“It is my ambition to see the end of this menace as fast as possible and I call for support from our political leaders and Nigerians to achieve this goal,” the COAS said.

He pledged to deploy his knowledge and personal experience to see the end of the insurgency in Yobe State.

Gen. Oluyede commended Yobe State people for their support to the army and called for more support to facilitate the end of insurgency.
