The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), under the chairmanship of Governor Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi State, at a meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, passed a vote of confidence in Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, and his committee members for their outstand­ing performance in rebuild­ing the governing party.

According to PGF, the vote of confidence was imperative to encourage the interim lead­ership of the party to contin­ue its strides in piloting APC to its next level.

The governors said the “vote of confidence is imperative to encourage the leadership of the party to continue its strides in piloting her to its next level.

“It would be recalled that the CECPC of the party under the leadership of Governor Buni was put in place to strengthen the ruling party in the face of some challenges.

“The Yobe State Governor and his CECPC Committee members have succeeded in attracting serving and former Governors, Senators, House of Representatives members as well as other notable opposition figures to the party. They have also helped in stabilizing the All Progressives Congress and midwife a successful membership drive to make the party the biggest in Africa,” the governors said.

It was also gathered that with the endorsement by the governors, the stage may have been set for another six months extension of the Buni-led caretaker committee which first came into office, leading a 13-member in June 2020 following the disso­lution of the Adams Oshiom­hole-led NWC.

In April, the Forum of State Caretaker Chairmen of the APC distanced them­selves from the alleged plot to extend the tenure of the Na­tional Caretaker Committee.

The Buni committee is charged with the responsibil­ity of reconciling aggrieved members of the party and organising a national con­vention.

The APC National Execu­tive Council (NEC) extended the committee’s tenure by six months in December 2020. By that, their tenure is expected to come to an end this month.

In April, the Forum of State Caretaker Chairmen of the APC distanced them­selves from the alleged plot to extend the tenure of the Na­tional Caretaker Committee.

Though Mr Buni has denied eying the APC chairmanship after his interim tenure, there are speculations that the party’s governors are rooting for him to retain the seat after his one-year interim tenure.
