Gov. Fintiri approves 50% increase in scholarship allowances

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has approved a 50 percent increase in scholarship allowances for students of the state.

Fintiri announced this at the 14th convocation ceremony of Adamawa State University Mubi (ADSUM) on Tuesday in Mubi Local Government Area of the state.

He directed the Scholarship Board to conduct the new review with immediate effect so students can start enjoying the policy.

The governor said his administration is recommitted to the development of education and assured of sustained investment in the sector.

He congratulated the graduands and advised them to take advantage of good opportunities that may come their way for the success of their future.

Fintiri, however, urged lecturers of the institution to engage in groundbreaking research and innovations, especially in the area of agriculture for more development and an increase in internally generated revenue of the university.

According to him, agriculture employed over 70 percent of citizens in production, processing, storage, and marketing activities.

In her address, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, ADSUM’s Vice-Chancellor, said the ceremony is also marking the 20th anniversary of the university from 2002 to 2022.

She said the institution started with three faculties and 13 departments, but steadily rose to seven faculties, consisting of 42 programmes in 35 departments.

According to her, arrangements are in top gear to introduce a Medical and Health Science Faculty.

“All the programmes as at last accreditation had full accreditation status with the National University Commission (NUC) except one which had interim accreditation which translated to 98 percent accreditation status,” she said.

Professor Awwal Tukur, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council of the university, said as part of human capital development, the management and council approved the employment of two persons with disabilities who were postgraduate students.

Professor Tukur said the two persons are doing excellently well as students and encourage others living with disabilities to develop themselves educationally.

He congratulated the graduands and advised them to key into agriculture particularly livestock as one of the dependable areas to succeed.

“This sector is also one of the main employers of labour nationwide, and our graduands can readily go into it by starting small and growing big,” he said.
