Hon. Mashio emerges Speaker as Yobe 8th Assembly elects principal officers

Hon. Chiroma Mashio representing the Jajere constituency has been elected speaker as the 8th Assembly members of the Yobe State House of Assembly elect new leaders that would run the affairs of the house for the next four years.

Hon. Mashio was elected unopposed during the 8th inaugural setting to mark the beginning of the 8th Assembly in Yobe State.

The election was followed by a nomination from Hon. Adamu Dala Dogo, a member representing the Karasuwa constituency, and seconded by a member representing Geidam Constituency, Hon. Bukar Mustapha.

The nomination comes shortly after Governor Mai Mala Buni proclaimed the assembly for the commencement of the legislative duties.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Speaker Hon. Chiroma Mashio commended the members of the house for giving him the opportunity to serve as speaker and promised to give equal opportunities to all members.

Mashio also assured to work hand in hand with the executive arm of government for more dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

Other elected members are; Hon. Yau Usman Dachia, Deputy Speaker; Hon. Nasiru Hassan Yusuf, Leader; Hon. Hassan Mohammed Yusufari, Deputy leader; Hon. Mohammed Auwal Isa Bello, Chief-Whip and Hon. Ahmed Musa Danbol as Deputy Chief-whip.

The 8th Yobe House of Assembly is made up of two political parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) with 22 members and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with 2 members respectively.
