Insecurity: Zamfara gov’t closes 8 cattle markets

In response to the persistent security challenges in the state, the Zamfara State Government has taken the decision to temporarily close several cattle markets (Kara) in five local government areas. The announcement was made by the Commissioner of Information and Culture, Mannir Mu’azu Haidara, in a statement released on Sunday.

The statement said, the affected cattles markets are, Danjibga and kunchin kalgo in Tsafe local government, Bagega and Wuya cattles market in Anka, Dangulbi and Dansadau in Maru, Dauran in Zurmi and Nasarawar Burkullu in Bukkuyim local government area respectively.

According to the commissioner, the decision to temporarily closed the cattle markets (Kara) was taken during the State Security Council Meeting held last Thursday, was as a result of the nefarious activities of selling and loading of rustled cattles by the suspected members of armed bandits.

Haidara emphasized the importance of strict compliance with the closure measures by security agencies and the Directorate of Animal Health and Livestock Development.

The State Security Council also assured the general public and other relevant stakeholders of its commitment to monitor and review the progress, with the aim of restoring peace in the affected cattle market areas. To
