NAPTIP arrests Civilian JTF member for impregnating a minor in Borno

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) Maiduguri Zonal Command, has arrested a Civilian JTF member for alleged sexual exploitation of a 15-year-old girl.

NAPTIP disclosed that the 25-year-old suspect, Tijjanu Mohammed, stays at the Ngomari airport, Binta sugar area of Maiduguri in Borno state and has been sleeping with the 15-year-old girl who based in the same area for a period of time.

 

 

The agency confirmed the arrest in a statement earlier this week, saying Tijjanu Mohammed exploited the girl knowing fully well she is of minor age, he had sex with her which leads to pregnancy.

The statement in part reads “The suspect sexually exploited a 15 years old girl of the same address and as result she became pregnant”.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) was created on the 14th of July 2003 by the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act 2003. The Agency is Nigeria’s Government response to addressing the menace of human trafficking. It is a fulfilment of the country’s international obligation under the Trafficking in Persons Protocol.

The Agency aims to prevent, suppress and punish trafficking in persons, especially women and children.
