NAPTIP rescues 9 pregnant women from Abuja baby factory
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has successfully rescued nine pregnant women from a “baby factory” located in the Ushafa area of Abuja.
According to a statement released by NAPTIP Press Officer Vincent Adekoye, the rescue operation followed a tip-off from a concerned citizen.
The women were discovered confined within an apartment in a sprawling estate, allegedly held captive by an unidentified human trafficking suspect.
Investigations suggest that the victims were recruited through an online platform and subsequently lured to the location.
In a separate development, NAPTIP Director-General Binta Adamu-Bello praised the judiciary for the recent conviction and sentencing of Bishop Kenneth Duke, who was found guilty of raping a 12-year-old girl, the daughter of one of his church members.
Adamu-Bello emphasized that this landmark judgment will serve as a strong deterrent to others who may contemplate such heinous crimes. She reiterated NAPTIP’s unwavering commitment to enforcing anti-trafficking and anti-violence laws, regardless of the offender’s status.
The Director-General expressed deep concern over the incident, highlighting the devastating and long-lasting psychological trauma inflicted upon the young victim. She called upon the public to actively condemn and prevent such acts of violence against children.
