NDLEA intercepts 30kg heroin concealed in coffee packages

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 30 kilograms of heroin concealed in coffee packs and arrested a Brazilian national in a major anti-drug operation.

The seizure was made during a coordinated intelligence-led operation by NDLEA operatives, who discovered the illicit drugs carefully hidden inside factory-sealed coffee packages in an attempt to evade detection.

According to the agency, the suspect was taken into custody after preliminary screening and profiling raised suspicion, leading to a thorough search that uncovered the concealed narcotics. The heroin was confirmed after field tests conducted by NDLEA forensic officers.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said the arrest underscores the growing sophistication of international drug trafficking networks and the agency’s resolve to dismantle them. He noted that investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the drugs, the intended destination, and possible local collaborators.

“The agency remains committed to protecting Nigeria from becoming a hub for illicit drug trafficking, and anyone involved, regardless of nationality, will be brought to justice,” Babafemi said.

The seized drugs have been documented and secured as evidence, while the suspect is expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
