NDLEA intercepts ₦4.4bn worth of codeine syrup
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully intercepted 636,600 bottles of codeine-based syrup, valued at ₦4.4 billion on the streets, at the Port Harcourt Port Complex, Onne, Rivers State.
The seizure occurred following shipments from India on December 9, 11, and 13, 2024. The drugs were recovered during a joint examination conducted by NDLEA officers, operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), and other security agencies.
The interception was made possible due to credible intelligence processed by NDLEA operatives.

In a statement issued on Sunday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi revealed that the successful operation highlighted the agency’s continued vigilance in fighting drug abuse and trafficking.
The agency has also been carrying out sensitization activities across the country, educating communities, students, and workers on the dangers of drug abuse.
NDLEA Chairperson, Buba Marwa, commended the Onne Command officers for their operational success and emphasised the agency’s ability to track drug consignments, even before they reach Nigerian shores.
He stated that the latest seizure should send a strong message to drug barons and cartels about the NDLEA’s capacity to dismantle their operations.
