Nigerian family faces deportation from Canada over fake admission letter
Lola Akinlade, a Nigerian student in Canada, is on the brink of deportation after it emerged that she used a fraudulent acceptance letter to secure a study visa and work permit. Akinlade, who graduated with a diploma in Social Services from Nova Scotia Community College in 2019, revealed the shocking news that the letter she used was fake.
“I was devastated when I found out,” Akinlade told CBC News. “That was the beginning of my trauma. I had no idea that the letter provided by an agent was fraudulent.”
Akinlade explained that Babatunde Isiaq Adegoke, the agent who supplied the letter, admitted to the deception but blamed a third-party company for the fraudulent documents. “I was shocked to learn that there were no available spaces at the University of Regina,” Akinlade said. “I was forced to enroll at Nova Scotia Community College instead.”
Despite Akinlade’s claims that she was a victim of a “rogue agent,” the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) determined she was aware of the fake document. The IRCC has revoked her study permit and denied her applications for a postgraduate work permit and a temporary resident permit.
“I contacted the IRCC to plead my case, but they decided that I was complicit,” Akinlade lamented. “It’s really hard for us right now. We’ve been surviving on our savings, and I don’t know how long we can continue doing that.”

Her husband and older son, who joined her in 2018, have also lost their temporary resident status. Their younger child, a Canadian citizen, remains without medical coverage due to the family’s uncertain status.
“We’re facing the possibility of leaving Canada, a place where we have built our lives,” Akinlade said. “Our youngest child, born here, is left without coverage. It’s a distressing situation for all of us.”
The case underscores the severe impact of immigration fraud and the complex challenges faced by individuals caught in such circumstances.
