Ondo man bags jail term for attempting suicide inside police cell

An Ondo State Chief Magistrate Court, located in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state, has sentenced one Kayode Ojo to prison for attempting to commit suicide.

The court ordered his remand after he was accused of trying to drink a poisonous substance while in police custody.

According to the police prosecutor, Mr James Usifo, Ojo’s actions contravened Section 327 of the Criminal Code Cap. 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006. It was revealed that Ojo had been apprehended earlier by the state police command for a separate crime and was subsequently detained in a police cell, where he attempted to take his own life by consuming a suspected disinfectant.
