One-Chance: Police arrrest 2 suspects, rescue female victim in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested two serial “One-Chance” suspects at the Wuse Axis of Abuja.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Babaji Sunday’s routine intelligence-led and coordinated patrol and stop and search operation led to the arrest of the suspects.

Meanwhile, DSP Adeh Josephine, Police Public Relations Officer of the Command in a statement on Sunday gave the names of the suspects as Paul Danjuma age 27 years, an indigene of Plateau State and a resident of Jiwa, Gwagwa, Abuja and Abubakar Mohammed, age 42 years who is an indigene of Niger State and a resident of Jahi, Abuja.

Preliminary investigations by the Police team indicated that, “The suspects posed as taxi driver and a passenger standing by to pick other passengers.

“Once they get a target, particularly female victims, they lock the doors, drive around town while disposing their victims of their valuables. On this instance, the suspects picked up the female victim who had just closed from work, and on their way to her supposed destination, locked the car, changed the route, tied her up and demanded for her ATM card.

They also threatened to rape and kill her if she doesn’t cooperate with them. The sum of N391,000 was withdrawn from her account via ATM and POS transactions, while the sum N10,000 cash which she had on her was collected from her.

“The suspects were however apprehended by operatives of the Wuse Division on stop and search duties specially tasked by the Command to look out for passengers who may have fallen victim of “one-chance” criminals.

“One of the suspects, Paul Danjuma, who tried to evade arrest, was intercepted by the Commissioner of Police, CP Babaji Sunday who equally was on routine confidence building patrol around the axis.”

Exhibits recovered from the suspects include their operational vehicle, one black Toyota Corolla, 401,000, Point-of-Sale (POS) machine, four mobile phones, two sharp knives, ropes, foreign currency notes and duct tape.

According to the statement, the CP assured residents of the FCT that the Command under his watch is committed to curtailing the activities of criminal elements popular known as “One-Chance” in the FCT.

Babaji while assuring diligent investigations and prosecution of the suspects warned all perpetrators of “one-chance” and other forms of crimes and criminality within the FCT to desist forthwith, noting that the long-arm of the law is outstretched and will surely catch up with them.
