Painful reforms are necessary cost of securing Nigeria’s future — Oshiomhole
Former Edo State Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has described ongoing reforms in the country as painful but unavoidable, stressing that they are the price Nigeria must pay to build a sustainable future.
Oshiomhole said while the reforms have imposed short-term hardship on citizens, they are aimed at correcting long-standing structural problems that have hindered national development for decades.
According to him, difficult decisions taken by government are necessary to stabilise the economy, promote transparency, and lay the foundation for growth and prosperity. He urged Nigerians to exercise patience, noting that the benefits of the reforms would become evident over time.
The former labour leader acknowledged the impact of rising living costs on ordinary citizens but insisted that delaying or avoiding reforms would only worsen the country’s challenges.
Oshiomhole also called on leaders at all levels to complement reforms with accountability, good governance, and policies that protect the most vulnerable in society.

He maintained that building a stronger Nigeria requires sacrifice today in order to secure a better and more prosperous tomorrow.
