Police arrest 10 suspects in connection with FUOYE student’s death

The Ekiti State Police Command has made a significant progress in the investigation of the tragic death of Modupe Deborah, a 200-level nursing student at the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), by apprehending ten suspects.

In a statement released on the command’s official X account, DSP Abutu Sunday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrests.

Neptune Prime reports that nursing student, Deborah, went missing on September 5, 2023, from within the school premises.

Days later, her lifeless body was discovered in a shallow grave approximately 30 metres behind the nursing Lecture Hall.

DSP Abutu Sunday stated, “I am here to inform the general public that following the order of the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Ogundare Dare, a thorough investigation into the cause of the death of Atanda Modupe Deborah, a 200-level nursing student at Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), has been initiated.

“Deborah was reported missing within the school premises on 5/09/2023, but her lifeless body was found in a shallow grave, located about 30 metres behind the nursing Lecture Hall.”

He assured the public that justice would be served and those responsible for this heinous act would face the full wrath of the law.

“While urging for patience and calm, the commissioner vows that the command will leave no stone unturned in identifying the perpetrator(s) and ensuring they are held accountable.”

The command urges anyone with valuable information regarding this tragic incident to visit Oye Divisional Police Headquarters, Oye-Ekiti, or State CIID, or call 09064050086/08053499199.

As the investigation proceeds, the body of the deceased has been taken to the morgue for an autopsy, and the ten suspects are currently in police custody, undergoing intense scrutiny.

The university’s management had previously announced the student’s disappearance, with Registrar Mufutau Ibrahim sharing the devastating news of her death.

He stated, “Earlier today, the university management made public the distressing development of the missing student and assured that an ongoing investigation would reveal her whereabouts.

“Unfortunately, new information received by the university’s security outfit confirms that the student is deceased,” the registrar said.
