Police hunt herbalist over alleged killing of 21-year-old yahoo boy

Police in Nasarawa State have launched a manhunt for a herbalist, identified only as Alfa, in connection with the death of a suspected internet fraudster and the attempted murder of another.

The incident occurred in Mararaba, where the victims had sought spiritual help.

The case came to light after a vigilante member, Jamilu Abubakar, reported the incident. Investigations revealed that Abubakar had accompanied Ani Sunday, 21, and Tosin Akurunor to Alfa’s residence on August 12, 2025, to seek spiritual assistance to “boost their illicit online activities.”

Police sources say Alfa allegedly prepared a concoction and served meat to the two men. Shortly after consuming it, they both began to suffer from severe stomach pains. They were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Mararaba for treatment.

At the hospital, Ani Sunday was pronounced dead on arrival. Tosin Akurunor is currently receiving treatment and is reportedly responding well.

While Alfa remains at large, police have arrested Abubakar for his role in taking the victims to the herbalist.

The Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer confirmed that detectives are working tirelessly to track down the fugitive, and they have asked the public to provide any credible information that could lead to his arrest.

Authorities also issued a warning to the public about the dangers of seeking illegal spiritual means to acquire wealth, highlighting the criminal consequences and risks involved.
