Police in FCT implement ban on tinted glasses, arrest 5 ‘One Chance’ robbers

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Police Force has announced the resumption of enforcement of the ban on tinted glasses and concealed or defaced number plates.
The announcement was made by the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, on Tuesday during the parade of suspects arrested for various crimes in the nation’s capital.
CP Disu disclosed that 296 vehicles have already been impounded for violations, including the use of tinted windows, driving with a single number plate, and obscuring or altering number plates. He emphasised that these measures are part of proactive efforts to maintain law and order within the FCT.
In addition to addressing traffic violations, CP Disu reported significant strides in curbing criminal activities. He revealed that police operatives had intercepted five ‘One Chance’ robbery operations, successfully rescuing three victims from abduction.
Highlighting the importance of community involvement, he stated, “These achievements show the importance of public collaboration in ensuring the safety of all FCT residents.”

Addressing concerns about the ban on tinted windows, Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi explained on Saturday that although the issuance of tint permits had been temporarily suspended, the prohibition on tinted glasses remains in effect. He clarified that officers are authorised to investigate vehicles with tinted windows if they suspect criminal activity.
CP Disu also shared details of notable arrests.
On November 23, 2024, officers from the State Intelligence Department (SID) apprehended Ibrahim Kabiru during a routine patrol on Ahmadu Bello Way. A search of his vehicle uncovered suspicious items, including a Point-of-Sale (POS) machine, a knife, scissors, two mobile phones, and a female luggage suspected to be stolen. Kabiru, identified as a member of a ‘One Chance’ robbery gang, is currently under investigation.
These actions underscore the FCT Command’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring public safety across the capital.
