Police storm bandits’ hideout, arrest suspects in FCT operation
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command, in collaboration with special forces from the guards brigade and DSS hunters, has successfully stormed identified kidnappers’ camps at Gidan Dogo and Kweti Forest in Kaduna State, leading to the arrest of four suspects.
A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, on Sunday, confirmed that the operation was conducted on Friday as part of ongoing efforts against criminality in the FCT.
The arrested suspects include Yahaya Abubakar, 25, of Mpape; Mohammed Mohamed, 32, of Zuba (an ex-convict); Umar Aliyu, 20; and Nura Abdullahi, 32, also an ex-convict of Kubwa and Zuba hills respectively.
The suspects have confessed to being members of a notorious bandit syndicate known as ‘Mai One Million’, responsible for a series of kidnappings and other heinous crimes in the FCT and its environs.
The coordinated operation resulted in a shootout between the bandits and the security operatives, forcing the bandits to flee and leading to the rescue of kidnapped victims.
The illegally erected structures used by the kidnappers in all the patrolled camps were destroyed.
The rescued victims have been reunited with their families. The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, praised the efforts of the security operatives in combating criminality in the nation’s capital and reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of FCT residents.
