Primary school pupils write books to promote social awareness, literacy among children
In a remarkable display of creativity, empathy, and understanding, three young authors from Nigeria have written books that tackle important social issues affecting children and society.
Muhammad Hamisu Abubakar, Fatima Muhammad Gumel, and Munawwarah Abubakar, all primary school pupils, have authored books that promote positive values and social awareness among children.
The books, titled: Tricky Pills, Hurtful Deeds, and Lies and the Dire Consequences: “Pupils’ Guide,” explore themes such as drug abuse prevention, empathy, and honesty.
Under the mentorship of Mrs Khadija Raji, a certified Child Development Practitioner and Assessor, these young writers conducted guided research using credible sources to develop their stories.
The books are part of the “Empowering Young Voices Through Writing” initiative, which aims to promote child creativity and literacy through storytelling and guided authorship.
The initiative also seeks to raise social awareness on issues such as drug abuse, honesty, and empathy among children, and to encourage peer-led learning and child participation in value-based education.
“We are thrilled to see these young authors showcase their talents and share their messages with the world,” said Mrs Khadija Raji, mentor to the young authors.

“Their books are not only entertaining but also educational, and we believe they will inspire other children to express themselves positively through writing.”
According to the event promoter, Amb. Sani Muhammad, the books will be launched at an event that will bring together stakeholders in education, child development, and social welfare. The event will also feature school outreach and literacy campaigns, as well as the creation of an online platform for the books and related educational materials.
“We believe that these young authors are the future leaders of our society, and we are committed to supporting them in any way we can,” said Amb. Muhammad Sani.
“Their books are a testament to the power of young people to make a positive impact in their communities, and we are excited to see the ripple effect of their work.”
The “Empowering Young Voices Through Writing” initiative is a shining example of what can be achieved when young people are allowed to express themselves and share their ideas with the world.
“We look forward to seeing the impact of this initiative on the lives of children and communities across Nigeria,” he said.
About the Authors
Muhammad Hamisu Abubakar is a Primary Two pupil who wrote “Tricky Pills,” a book about drug abuse prevention.
Fatima Muhammad Gumel is a Primary Four pupil who wrote “Hurtful Deeds,” a story about empathy and kindness.
Munawwarah Abubakar is a Primary Four pupil who wrote “Lies and the Dire Consequences: Pupils’ Guide,” a book about the importance of honesty.
These young authors are an inspiration to their peers and a testament to the power of creativity and positive values in shaping the minds of future generations.
