SEMA flags off palliative distributions in 17 LGAs in Yobe

Story from Sa’adatu MAINA, Damaturu

The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has flagged off the distribution of palliatives containing food and other condiments to 349 households across the 17 local government areas of the state.

Dr Mohammed Goje, SEMA executive secretary, while flagging-off the distribution in Potiskum Local Government Area said that the measure was meant to cushion the hardship faced by the people due to some emergencies as well as Coronavirus pandemic in the state.

Goje said the support was equally meant to support farmers over the transition of the rainy season where all foodstuff stuck in stores has finished while those planted are not yet ready for harvest.

“The state Governor, Honourable Mai Mala Buni has directed that we as a matter of urgency embark on the distribution of the palliatives especially now that people are suffering from the raining and dry season transition where there is a shortage of food, particularly in rural areas.

“Similarly, COVID-19 has rendered businesses of many households down hence they need support. The effort is targeting at least 200 to 280 households in each ward of the 178 political wards across the state,” Goje stated.

Goje who reiterated the commitment of the agency towards distributing the items in good time as directed by the Governor, charged people to remain calm, as each local government will receive its share accordingly.

He said the administration of Governor Buni is determined towards making life more bearable across the state so as to help people, especially farmers, cultivate their farm produce with ease and happiness.
