Tinubu delays foreign trips over Kebbi abductions, Kwara church attack

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, to receive further security briefings on the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.

The development was announced on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

According to Onanuga, following a request from the Kwara State governor, President Tinubu ordered the deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area. He also directed the police to urgently pursue the bandits responsible for the church attack.

The President had been scheduled to travel today for the 20th G20 Summit in South Africa before heading to Luanda for the 7th AU-EU Summit. However, concerns over the security incidents in Kebbi and Kwara prompted him to suspend his departure.

President Tinubu is awaiting detailed reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi on his behalf, as well as updates from the police and the Department of State Services on the Kwara attack.

He reaffirmed his directive to security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the 24 abducted schoolgirls and return them home unharmed
