Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has donated ₦32 million to the Nigerian Legion to improve the welfare of fallen heroes and veterans in the state.

Speaking at the launch of the Emblem Appeal Week in Damaturu on Wednesday, part of the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day activities, Governor Buni explained that ₦30 million was contributed by the state government, while he personally added ₦2 million.

The governor expressed deep appreciation for the sacrifices of the veterans in defending the nation’s territorial integrity and maintaining its unity.

“In the course of their tour of duty, some paid the supreme price, others were maimed and remain incapacitated for the future of our dear country in particular and humanity in general.

“Here in Yobe State, we are indebted to the huge contributions made by the Nigeria armed forces, some of whom are now members of the Nigeria Legion, the police, and other security agencies in the fight against insurgency and kidnapping.

“We salute your loyalty, courage and selfless devotion to our great country and in defence of justice, liberty, unity and human dignity,” the governor said.

The governor pledged continued support for veterans and their families while urging the public to contribute financially to the legion by purchasing emblems.

Retired Capt. Ibrahim Gadine, Chairman of the Yobe State Chapter of the Nigerian Legion, expressed gratitude for the governor’s consistent support and dedication to the welfare of the veterans.
