ISWAP ambushes military convoy, abducts brigade commander, kills soldier

Suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have launched a deadly ambush on a Nigerian Army convoy in northeastern Nigeria, reportedly killing several soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

Multiple security sources disclosed that the attackers, said to be heavily armed and highly coordinated, struck the convoy in a planned assault that left significant casualties and heightened tension across the area.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that a serving Brigade Commander was abducted during the attack, alongside other military personnel. If officially verified, it would mark the first time in Nigeria’s counterinsurgency war that a serving General is captured directly from an active frontline operation.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Army has not issued an official statement confirming the incident or providing updates on the status of the abducted officer.

The attack comes amid renewed concerns over rising insurgent activity in Borno State. Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, had recently raised alarm over increasing terrorist assaults in parts of his constituency. The lawmaker, in a statement on Thursday, described the situation as “deeply worrisome,” noting that four farmers were brutally killed by Boko Haram fighters in Kwam village near the Dille community in Askira-Uba Local Government Area.
