The late Mrs. Obasanjo, wife of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, died in October 2005 at a private clinic in Marbella, Spain, after undergoing cosmetic surgery.

After years of legal proceedings, a Spanish court found the attending surgeon guilty of professional negligence, ruling that errors during the surgical procedure and post-operative care contributed to complications that led to her death.

Court documents indicated that the doctor failed to take adequate precautions and did not respond appropriately when complications arose following the operation. The ruling imposed a custodial sentence and professional sanctions.
