Kogi to embrace culture of blood donation

Kogi state coordinator of Blood Transfusion Centre, Dr Matthew Ibrahim has called on the people to embrace the culture of blood donation for healthy living.

Ibrahim made the appeal while speaking on the imperatives of blood donation in Lokoja.

He noted that the importance of blood donation includes: Health check for blood volume and blood pressure, health status for HIV, Hepatitis B, C and Syphilis, and prevention of cancer.

Other benefits are prevention of iron overload, especially in men, regeneration of new blood cells and saving lives especially women and children.

The Coordinator urged churches, mosques, organisations and individuals to donate blood and educate their members on such benefits.

Dr Ibrahim added that the recent outings on blood donation was not encouraging and called for a change in the trend for the benefit of both donors and patients.
