Police rescue 187 abducted victims from Tsibiri forest in Zamfara

Police operatives in Zamfara state have rescued and handed over a total of 187 abductees, comprising males, female adults and children, to the state government. The Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Muhammad Shehu disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Gusau, the state capital.

“Following the implementation of the new security measures by the Zamfara state government, the police and other security agencies have been carrying out assaults on identified bandits’ locations in different parts of the state, with a view to ridding the state of all recalcitrant bandits and other criminal elements.

Police tactical operatives, yesterday, in a joint operation at Tsibiri forest in Maradun local government area of the state, succeeded in the unconditional rescue of 187 victims abducted in Rini, Gora, Sabon Birni and Shinkafi communities in Bakura Maradun and Shinkafi LGAs respectively.

“The abducted victims, who had spent many weeks in captivity, were unconditionally rescued following an extensive search and rescue operations that lasted for hours”, Shehu said.

Responding, while taking over the rescued victims, Matawalle thanked the police and other security agencies for their resilience and hard work in the enforcement of the new security measures in the state.

Governor Matawalle, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Kabiru Balarabe, assured of state government’s continuous support and encouragement to all security agencies in the state, to enable them to carry out their duties perfectly.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Ayuba Elkanah, while handing over the rescued victims to Gov. Bello Matawalle, said the new security measures in the state have been yielding tremendous results, as it has led to the successful rescue of hundreds of abducted victims.

Similarly, several bandits and their collaborators have been arrested, some have been charged to court, while others are undergoing discreet investigation, Shehu said.

The Commissioner of Police also assured the citizens of Zamfara state of security agencies’ determination to continue securing their lives and properties.

Elkanah sympathised with the victims over the torture and inhuman treatments they passed through while in captivity.

He disclosed that government will make sure the victims undergo medical treatment before being reunited with their families.
