Bauchi plans to lift embargo on employment in health sector

Bauchi State Government has given hints about plans to lift the embargo it placed on employment in the health sector over two years ago.

This was disclosed by the Deputy Governor of the state, Baba Tela at the 2021 Primary Health Care retreat with the theme: Towards Building a Sustainable and Resilient Primary Healthcare System in Bauchi State held in Gombe State.

He said the state government is giving a thought regarding it, as the government prioritised the implementation of programmes that would improve healthcare delivery in the state.

“We are working on the verification exercise report to ensure that our healthcare system gets more human resources. We are committed to healthcare delivery, which is why the state government has settled the outstanding counterpart fund with partners amounting to N350 million,” he said.

Speaking during the retreat, the representative of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Bashir Maidabino, commended the Bauchi State Government for its commitment to a sustainable primary healthcare system.

He urged the stakeholders to use the retreat to produce programmes and projects that would strengthen primary healthcare services to the Bauchi people.

On his part, the Bauchi State Commissioner for Health, Dr Sama’ila Dahuwa, said the state government needed policies and programmes that would drive opportunities for sustaining the state’s primary healthcare system.

Dahuwa, who pointed out the enormous contributions of the primary healthcare system in the state such as the provision of basic health needs to over 80 per cent of the citizens, added that lack of sustainability of PHCs would dampen productivity of the healthcare system and delivery in the state.

He, therefore, assured that the retreat would provide an opportunity for stakeholders to brainstorm and come up with a valuable programme for effective healthcare delivery for the citizens in the state.
