Betrayal, tragedy as Gombe Govt mourns retired perm sec abducted, killed in Kano

The Gombe State Government is in mourning following the tragic death of Alhaji Atiku Mu’azu Buyam, a retired Permanent Secretary and former Chairman of the Gombe State Board of Internal Revenue Service.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya expressed deep sorrow upon hearing of the death of the respected official, who was reportedly abducted and murdered in Kano State, where he had settled after his retirement.

According to a chilling sequence of events, Mu’azu, a resident of Kabuga/Jan Bulo Estate along Gwarzo Road in Kano, received a phone call from his mechanic informing him that his stolen car had been recovered.

The mechanic urged him to come quickly to identify and retrieve the vehicle. Trusting the call, Mu’azu met with the individuals at a designated location, never to return home.

Later, the kidnappers contacted his family, demanding a ransom of N20 million. Despite their best efforts, the family could only raise N10 million, which was promptly collected by the criminals.

However, the ordeal did not end with the ransom. The abductors later dumped his lifeless body by the side of a road in a different area, leaving his family in disbelief and agony.

The incident has sparked outrage in both Gombe and Kano, as authorities quickly swung into action.

A suspect has been apprehended in connection with the heinous crime, though the mechanic, believed to be an accomplice, is currently on the run.

The Gombe State Governor extended his heartfelt condolences to Mu’azu’s family, friends, and the people of his hometown in Kalishen, Shongom Local Government Area, urging the security agencies to continue their investigation and ensure that justice is served.

In his statement, Governor Yahaya expressed his condolences to the bereaved, saying, “On behalf of the government and people of Gombe State, we extend our heartfelt sympathy. May Allah grant him eternal peace and grant his family the fortitude to enduret his painful loss.”
