FG declares October 1st public holiday to celebrate 64th Independence Day

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Tuesday, October 1, 2024, as a public holiday in celebration of the nation’s 64th Independence Day anniversary.

This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government, who extended his congratulations to Nigerians, both within the country and abroad.

In a statement released on Friday by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Dr. Tunji-Ojo expressed his appreciation for the hardworking and resilient spirit of Nigerian men and women. He emphasized that their sacrifices will not go in vain.

Aligning his message with the theme of this year’s celebration, the Minister urged Nigerians to reflect on the efforts of the nation’s “heroes past” and take inspiration for the future. He called on citizens to stay united in the task of building the Nigeria of their dreams.

“While wishing Nigerians a Happy Independence Day Anniversary, I encourage every citizen to remain steadfast in nation-building,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo said, urging a sense of collective responsibility towards the country’s progress.

This year’s Independence Day will serve as a moment for reflection and a celebration of Nigeria’s strides over the past 64 years.
