INEC declares Adamawa governorship election inconclusive, commences results verification

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the March 18 governorship election in Adamawa State inconclusive. 

The commission said the election is inconclusive due to the margin of votes and verification of results has started.

According to reports, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Aishatu Dahiru popularly called Binani scored 390, 275 while the incumbent, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), polled 421,524.

So far, the results of 20 governorship polls have been announced. The APC takes the lead with 14 states, the PDP with five states and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) with one state.

In the early hours of Monday, March 20, Prof. Mohammed Mele, state collation officer, and Mr Yakubu Ari, Adamawa Resident Electoral Commissioner, announced that the collation of results in Adamawa State has been postponed.

After the collation of results from 20 out of the 21 LGAs, the electoral body said the postponement is crucial in order to verify results from Fufore local government area which were snatched.

Earlier, the Commission also declared Kebbi State gubernatorial election inconclusive while the collation of the results of governorship polls in Abia and Enugu was suspended.
