She replaces Anne-Marie Trevelyan, who has been appointed as secretary of state for transport.

A post shared on the Twitter page of the UK Prime Minister, @10DowningStreet, on Tuesday, stated that Badenoch was a member of Liz Truss’ new cabinet.

The post read, “Kemi Badenoch MP @KemiBadenoch has been appointed Secretary of State for International Trade and President of the Board of Trade @TradeGovUK #reshuffle.”

Born in south London, Badenoch’s parents are of Nigerian origin, and in her maiden speech in the house of commons, she described herself as “to all intents and purposes a first-generation immigrant.”

The 42-year-old was among those running for the office of the prime minister before she lost out in the preliminary stages.

Other cabinet members to work with Truss as approved by Queen Elizabeth II, contained in a press release by 10 Downing Street are also announced.

The Rt Hon Dr Thérèse Coffey MP as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care. She will also be Deputy Prime Minister.

The Rt Hon Kwasi Kwarteng MP as Chancellor of the Exchequer among others.
