Man seeks divorce over wife’s bullying, intimidation

A married man identified as Mr Kazeem Yekini, is seeking for divorce from his wife, Opeyemi, at the Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan, stating that his wife consistently bullies, intimidates and blackmails him.

In his plea urging the court to dissolve the marriage, Yekini emphasised the detrimental impact the union had on his life.

He alleged that Opeyemi had been tarnishing his reputation through blackmail and had even gone as far as casting a spell on him, causing immense hardship. Yekini also pointed out instances where his wife confined him in a room and even involved security personnel without any valid reason.

During cross-examination, Opeyemi did not deny the allegations leveled against her and expressed a desire for an amicable resolution of the matter, admitting her unjustifiable actions towards her husband.

In her judgment, the court’s president, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, noted that “the marriage between Yekini and Opeyemi was not officially consummated and declared it invalid”.

Consequently, she granted custody of the couple’s child to Opeyemi and ordered Yekini to provide a monthly allowance for the child’s upkeep. Although the dissolution of the marriage was allowed, the court emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and order for both parties.

The court’s ruling aimed to address the distressing circumstances presented by both Yekini and Opeyemi, ensuring the welfare of the child while allowing the couple to go their separate ways.
