NGO donates food items, money to domestic violence victim in Yobe

A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Sahel Initiative for Justice to Women and Children (SIJ-WAC), has donated food items, clothes, and cash to a 32-year-old survivor of domestic violence, Maryam Aminu, and her three children in Yobe State.

Maryam Aminu, a native of Rivers State was said to have converted to Islam after she married an Adamawa man and they moved to Yobe with their three kids.

According to her, she has been dying in silence while enduring domestic violence at the hands of her husband but was able to experience genuine happiness after SIJ-WAC intervened in her situation.

SIJ-WAC Executive Director, Barrister Altine Ibrahim, said items presented include foodstuff, firewood, cash, clothes, children’s clothes, hygiene items, and cash as well as the settlement of the children’s school fees to enable them to resume school.

SIJ-WAC Executive Director, Barrister Altine Ibrahim, the Human Resource Officer, Aisha Bamala, together with other lawyers and staff of the NGO presented the items to the beneficiary.

Barrister Altine said other services rendered to Maryam are PSS (Psychosocial Support), free legal services, and livelihood intervention.

She said SIJ-WAC is a non-profit making organisation devoted to the cause of enhancing the pursuit of justice and respect for fundamental Human Rights.

Additionally, the organisation provides pro bono legal services, access to justice, and assistance through the paralegal system to victims of injustices, IDPs, and human rights violations in the Sahel area.

Sahel Initiative for Justice to Women and Children (SIJ-WAC) is located at No. 627, Dadinkowa, Obasanjo qtrs extension. Gujba road Damaturu, Yobe State.
