USAID donates teaching aids to health training institutions in Bauchi

A USAID funded program, Health Workforce Management Activity (HWM) has donated nineteen different world-class teaching aids, computers and projectors to Aliko Dangote College of Nursing Bauchi and Bill and Melinda College of Health Technology Ningi.
HWM donation is to improve the quality of service rendered by nurses, midwives and other health care providers in the state, which is in line with the agency’s mandate of strengthening pre-service education that will produce a skilled health force to meet the needs of the populace.
Earlier, the project organisers conducted a needs assessment in the health institutions to determine the gaps and make donations based on the needs, it also conducted a needs assessment in all the 323 main PHC per ward where it revealed that 193 out of the 323 lack the requisite human resource needed.

Presenting the items on behalf of USAID, Professor Oladosu Ojengbede a consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician said the items are part of requirements to produce skilled human resources and produce a state of Art Teaching Aid in health institutions. He added that a five-day training is also ongoing for teachers from the selected institutions and is currently at the pilot phase.
The state coordinator of HWM Nasir Saadu Fakai pointed out that the project is poised to position these institutions to meet the requirements for accreditation and will continue to offer them support whenever it is demanded.
Fakai however calls on other organisations and government establishments to provide such support and more, because numerous schools need upgrading. According to him, the upgrade will enhance them to start awarding degrees certificates as well as higher national diplomas (HND).
Shortly after receiving the items, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health Bauchi State Aliyu Babayo said the state is indebted to the organisation for the gesture and promised that the items will be used for the purpose intended, adding that the state will continue to partner with any organisation that is willing to complement the efforts of government in improving the standards of health institutions in the state.
Some of the items donated include antishock that can be used to prevent bleeding after delivery, pelvic model, heart model, patent nostrils among others.
The USAID HWM project is implemented in five states, Kebbi, Sokoto, Ebonyi, the FCT and Bauchi.
